TROJAN NUCLEAR PLANT
.[ )
Summary of Operating Experience
(,/
June 1988 The plant entered the month in Mode 5 with the annual refueling and maintenance outage in progress.
Fne' Toloading had been completed.
Work was in progress to complete several maintenance items.
Final checkout and acceptance testing of the newly installed remote snutdown station was completed on June 26.
A final test to verify that the plant can be maintained in hot standby and then cooled down 50*F from the remote shutdown station will be performed after heatup.
Degraded electrical cables which were discovered in Containment in the vicinity of the reactor coolant pumps have been evaluated as satisfactory for continued operation.
They will be replaced next outage.
During inspection of the pressurizer surge line, the surge line piping was found to be in contact with a pipe whip restraint.
Evaluation of this finding led to performance of non-destructive 7-~s examination of pressurizer surge line piping welds.
Repairable indications were found in welds en the surge line elbow just x
downstream of the pressurizer, 15e piping elbow containing these welds was cut out and replaced.
Pipe whip restraints on the surge line were modified.
Temporature detectors and motion detectors were instslied to monitor the surge line during heatup and power operation.
On June 6, excessive in-leakage to the Control Room envelope was discovered via the Control Room Emergency Ventilation System.
Extensive work was performed to repair the ducting leaks and reduce in-leakage to within allowable values.
Other n.ujer jobs completed during the month were:
Large bore pipe hanger and pipe whip restraint mo6ification Functional testing of newly installed Control Poom Chiller System.
At month's end the plant was in Mode 5 with reactor coolant system temperature at 90 F and one reactor coolant pump operating.
Preparations are being made to draw a bubble in the pressurizer and perform plant heatup.
