SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT (SQN) - NOTIFICATION (sF READINESS FOR UNIT 1 APPENDIX R INSPECTION In response to a letter from Suzanno Black to S. A. White dated Juno 6, 1988, I am informing you that SQN will be ready for the unit 1 Appendix R inspection beginning the week of July 25, 1988.

SQN's readiness is based on the following status of the throo inspection prerequisito items identifled in NRC's June 6, 1988 letter. With regard to item 1, the SQN Appendix R fire protection shutdown logic calculation (revision 9) was transmitted to you by lettor dated June 10, 1988. Completion of the design verification of unit 1 to revision 9 of the SQN Appendix R shutdown logic calsulation is currently in the final stages of completion' and will be complete beforo July 25, 1988. This dato extends the previously scheduled completion dato provided in TVA's June 10, 1988 letter. Enclosuro 1 provides a summary of modifications that have been identified during verification of SQN unit 1 to revision 9 as of July 1, 1988. In response to item 2, the basis for applying the SQN shutdown logic to unit 1 is identical to unit 2. Any differences in specific modifications are a result of uniquo dif ferences in unit configurations only. The requested list of modifications is therefore a null set. In responso to item 3, an evaluation of the unit 1.

a. Annulus sprinklers: eight' added, ten relocated; modifications scheduled for completion by July 31, 1988.
b. Annulus smoke detectors: nine added; modifications scheduled for completion by July 22, 1988.
c. Cable interaction in unit i reverde osmosis room: cable to be rerouted; modifications scheduled for completion by July 27, 1988.
2. Other Modifications
a. Power-operated relief valve / block valve spurious concern: lift leads at motor control center (units 1 and 2); modifications scheduled for completion by July 24, 1988.
b. Unit 1 interaction involving 480-volt transfer switch: wrap conduit in 480-volt transfer room; modifications scheduled for completion by July 27, 1988, i
