j July 8, 1988 Docket No. 50-334 50-412 Mr. J. D. Sieber, Vice President Duquensne Light Company Nuclear Group Post Office Box 4 Shippingport, PA 15077

Dear Mr. Sieber,

SUBJECT:

BEAVER VALLEY UNITS 1 & 2 - hRC BULLENTIN 88-01, "DEFECTS IN WESTINGHOUSE CIRCUIT BREAKERS" (TACS 67640 and 67641)

On February 5,1988, we issued NRC Bulletin 88-01 to request holders of operating licenses or construction permits to provide letters of confirmation of the completion of specified inspections on Westinghouse DS series circuit breakers. Addresses who do not have DS series circuit breakers in Class IE service were requested to provide a letter to the NRC stating this fact.

Your response dated March 7,1988, and supplerrent dated June 30, 1988, confirmed that (1) for Eeaver Valley Unit 2, requested inspections on all relevant circuit breakers and that corrective actions, when needed, have been or will be corrpleted in accordance with the NRC Bulletin, and (2) Westinghouse DS series circuit breakers are not used in safety-related applications at Beaver Valley Unit 1.

Thus, your response to Bulletin 88-01 is satisfactory, and no further reply is necessary.

Sincerely,

/s/
