REQUEST FOR WITHHOLDING INFORMATION FROM PUBLIC DISCLOSURE Your letters dated May 13, 1988, submitted the following documents and requested that they be withheld from public disclosure pursuant to 10 CFR 2.790:

1.

General Electric Company report entitled "Safety Evaluation for Extension of MSIV Stroke Time Requirements for Plant Hatch Units 1 and 2," dated January 1988.

2.

General Electric Company report entitled "Elimination of the High Suppression Pool Temperature Limit for Plant Hatch Units 1 and 2," dated March 1988.

Your submittals also included affidavits from Mr. Rudolph Villa of General Electric dated February 12 and May 2,1988, respectively.

The affidavits stated that the submitted information should be considered exempt from mandatory public disclosure for the following reasons:

1.

The information is of a type which is customarily held in confidence by General Electric.

2.

The information has consistently been held in confidence by General Electric.

3.

No public disclosure of the information has been made, and it is not available in public source..

4.

Public disclosure of the information would be likely to cause substantial harm to the competitive position of General Electric.

We have reviewed your application and the material in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 2.790 and, on the basis of statements by General Electric, have determined that the submitt.ed information sought to be withheld contains trade secrets or proprietary connercial information.

Withholding from public inspection shall not affect the right, if any, of persons properly and directly concerned to inspect the documents.

If the need arises, we may send copies of this information to our consultants working in this area. We will, of course, ensure that the consultants have signed the appropriate agreements for handling proprietary information.

l If the basis for withholding this information from public inspection should change in the future such that the information could then be made available for public inspection, you should promptly notify the NRC.

understond that the NRC may have cause to review this determination in the future, for example, if the scope of a Freedom of Information Act request-includes your information.

In all review situations, if the NRC makes a determination adverse to the above, you will be notified in advance of any public disclosure.
