This refers to the routine safety inspection (50-293/88-19) conducted by
Messrs. C. Warren,' J, Lyash, T. Kim and others of this office on April 18, 1988
to May 31, 1988, at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspec-
tion Report which is enclosed with this letter.
Actions taken near the close of this inspection period to address outstanding
maintenance program concerns appeared strong. A continued high level o f .-
management involvement is warranted to assure the development and implementat-
ion of effective corrective actions in this area. Resolution of these main-
tenance program weaknesses will be reviewed prior to plant restart.
