Confirmatory Action Letter 87-15, Supplement 1; No.12 Auxiliary Feedwater Pump Operability
Reference:
(a) Telephone conference between your Mr. J. R. Lemons and J. T. Wiggins of NRC on November 6, 1987 Confirmatory Action Letter 87-15, issued November 2, 1937, confirmed your commitment to shut down Unit 1 in accordance with Technical Specification 3.7.1.2, Action Statement a.2.(b), if the reltability of No. 12 auxiliary feedwater pump (AFWP) had not been sufficiently improved, and further confirmed your commitment to compensatory measures to be taken during the interim period.
This commitment would require the plant to be in the hot shutdown condition not later than 7:33 p.m., November 6, 1937.

Technical Specifications would require the plant to be in hot shutdown (Mede 4) not later than 3:35 p.m. on November 10, 1987 if No.
l 11 AFWP had not been restored to standby or automatic initating status (with l
No. 12 AFWP operable).
l With No. 11 AFWP having been inoperable for two days and No.12 AFWP operable only with compensatory measures, you elected to shut down the plant on November 5, and are presently in hot standby (Mode 3) to facilitate trouble-shooting and repair activities for the AFVPs.
l This letter confirms our understanding of your commitments of reference (a) l that you will; a.
maintain No. 12 AFWP operable in accordance with actions described in Items 1 through 6 of Con f i rmato ry Action Letter 87-15 until No. 11 AFVP is restored to operable status; and l
l b.
remain in hot standby, while troubleshooting and repair activities of the AFWPs are proceeding; and if these activities are not completed or a change to Technical Specification 3.7.1.2 is not I
obtained, be in hot shutdown no later than 3:35 p.m.
