CONCURRENCE REVIEW OF WITHDRAWAL OF RULEMAKING FOR ON-SITE STORAGE OF LOW-LEVEL WASTE (LLW) YT0930221 This is in response to your memorandum dated September 22, 1993, on this subject.
On behalf of NRR, I concur with the withdrawal of the proposed rulemaking.
I support your pursuit of other options as outlined in the Alternatives to the Proposed Rule Section of the draft Commission Paper, particularly those which would help ensure that power reactor licensees are clearly discouraged from becoming long-term LLW storage areas for their own (and other licensees') wastes.
