Dear Sirs:
Parsuant to Section 50-29 of the Commission's Regulations, Yankee Atomic Electric Company hereby requests authorization to make the following change:
PROPOSED CHANGE:
Reference is made to Section 107 of the license application, Core Instrumentation. We propose to install up to four stationary stainless steel clad miniature fission chambers in flux wire paths that are presantly inoperable.

less than 2 mg per detector Reason for Change: Several paths, either due to tube damage or obstructions, are inoperable in the present flux wire system.
In an attempt to obtain response,and lifetime information on recently developed miniature, fission chambers, we propose to install up to'four of these detectors in the inoperable paths of the existing system. The detectors would be in a fixed position at approximately mid-core.
There is considerable interest to the nuclear industry in the information that could be generated from the installation of these detectors in an operating reactor. Future designs and installations could greatly be improved.
Safety Considerations: In our opinion, the proposed change does not present significant hazard considerations not described or implicit in the license application, as amended to August 2, 1967, the date of issuance of Amendment No. 52 to the License No. DPR-3 or as amended to th3 date hereof. @

April 11, 196d The proposed change requires authorization by the Commission pur-suant to Section 50-29 of the Commission's Regulations, since it involves a change in the design specifications of the reactor which are set forth in the license application and incorporated by reference in the technical specifications (see paragraph B.2 of Appendix A to License No. IFR-3).
. Scheduling of Change: The change will be made during the present refueling currently on progress.
