Enuth, Assistant Director for Raactor Safety EWR ROD DRO? ACCIDENIS Ref: Memo of 8/1/72 " Vermont Yankee Affidavit on Rod Drop Accident" Af ter some discussion with W.144nners on Vernone Yankee problems, we agreed to go ahead with the temporary basis recommended in T.he enclosed note, from Roger Boyd.
I do not think we can continue to cceept a solutien of this kind for EVR's still to come down the review line. I propose that starting with Erowns Ferry Unit 1 there be a better solution for the rod drop accident than just having another man in the control room during startup.
For Browns Terry either suitable upgrading of the Rod Worth M4n4"4eer or acceptance of faster scran times 14 indicated.
We also have to deal with the EWs now operating, up through Vernant T nt a, with regard to a better solutton for the long run than the supplementary operator during startup. Again, either a much upgraded Rod Worth M4n4-4 rer system or the acceptance of shorter scram times are
.f.
possible sointions.
