. SEP 4 1987 MEMORANDUM FOR: D. R. Hunter, Chief, RP8/B FROM: Robert D. Martin, Regional Administrator

SUBJECT:

ASME CODE HYDR 0 STATIC TEST OF RCS PIPE SU8 ASSEMBLIES In response to your memorandum to me, same subject, dated 8/31/87, I understand that you and Mr. R. E. Hall have extensively ~ discussed the concerns you identified in that memorandum.

Your memorandum is couched in the context that records reviews and discussions do not provide evidence that the weld inspections during the RCS hydro of Unit I were performed adequately relative to code requirements. This context is different from your verbal characterization to me which asserted that you had discussions with D. Kelley which led you to conclude that the RCS hydro was improperly executed. Your concern regarding this matter is being referred to the Office of Special Programs for disposition.

The other issues you .dentified in your memorandum were apparently resolved to your satisfaction in your discussion with Mr. Hall.
