SUBJECT:
ASME C00E HYOR0 STATIC TEST OF RCS PIPE SU8 ASSEMBLIES Enclosed is a memorandum from D. R. Hunter to me, same subject, dated August 31, 1987, and my response to him dated September 4,1987.
In his memorandum and in verbal discussions on August 28, 1987, Mr. Hunter expressed his concern over the adequacy of inspections performed during the Unit 1 RCS hydro-test relative to ASME B&PV Code,Section III, NB 6215, requirements, and the resulting documentation of those xaminations.
This matter is related to Unresolved Item 445/8507-07; 446/85 09; however, the specific concerns over examination of all factory welds an base metal repairs not factory hydro-tested is not explicitly defined in the Unresolved Item.
If Mr. Hunter's concerns are confirmed, practices related to similar ongoing activities, as well as the acceptability of the Unit 1 RCS, may be in question.
It is recommended that the above noted Unresolved Item, including the above noted specific concerns be expeditiously addressed to pennit timely resolution of this issue.
