NIAGARA MOHAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION UNIT #1 !

NARRATIVE OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE l

l I

The station operated during the month of June 1997 with a Unit Availability Factor of 75.6% and a Net Design Electrical Capacity Factor of 72.3%. There were no challenges to the Electromatic Relief Valves. Reduction in Capacity Factor were due to various reasons. The major contributor !

- to lost energy was a unit shutdown starting June 14,1997, for 172 hours0.00199 days
0.0478 hours
2.843915e-4 weeks
6.5446e-5 months
to repair the inboard '

drywell floor drain isolation valve, which had failed to meet stroke time and LLRT criteria, i During startup on June 21,1997, the unit was removed from service for 4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
to repair a 1 leaking manway cover on the 2nd stage reheater. The startup was completed on June 23,1997 i

@l215. Another factor which contributed to capacity factor losses during the period of June 3-6, 1997, was problems associated with Feedwater Heater Extraction Non-F.eturn Valve 115. The plant experienced level control problems in Feedwater Heater String #11 due to the 115 valve l being stuck closed.
