MASONRY WALL DESIGN (IE BULLETIN 80-11)
FOR MILLSTONE UNIT 2 We have completed our review of your October 28, 1985 response to IE Bulletin 80-11, Masonry Wall Design. Your response was a result of our April 17, 1985 Safety Evaluation which required implementation of the staff. position on the use of the energy balance technique to qualify three remaining masonry walls.
Our supplemental Safety Evaluation addressing your October 28, 1985 response is enclosed.
In the supplement, we conclude that the issues regarding the energy-balance technique have been satisfactorily resolved and, therefore, items 2(b) and 3 of IE Bulletin 80-11 are now fully implemented for all safety related walls at Millstone Unit 2.
