Dear Ms. Cushws:

l This letter is a follow-up to our May 27,1997, phone conversation and also responds to your May 19,1997, letter. As noted in your letter, remediation of the Clovite Corporation site located l

at Cleveland Enterprise Group /Glenville Enterprise Center,540 E.105th Street, Clevelend, OH, is not progressing according to the schedule outlined during our March 11,1997, meeting and conference esil and documented in my March 21,1997, letter to Sevenson Environmental Services, Inc. (SES). According to the schedule, GES was to submit the revised Site Characterization Report (SCR) and Site Characterization, Remediation, and Health and Safety l

Plan (SCRHSP) to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for review on April 15,1997.

Conversations with SES now indicate that the revised SCR and SCRHSP should be submitted to l

the NRC within the next three weeks. As previously discussed, you and your client will receive distribution copies of the SCR and SCRHSP when they are transmitted to the NRC.

l I understand that your client is anxious to complete the decommissioning process as soon as l

possible. I am also intsrested in completing the decommissioning process as soon as possible, and will continue to work toward achieving that goal. During our conversation, you questioned the regulatory authority driving the decommissioning process at the Clevite Corporation site.

Please contact Mr. Robert Fonner at (301) 415-1643 for answers to this question and other legal l

matters.

If I can be of further assistance, contact me at (301) 415-6607.

l Sincerely,

/
