This, refers to tte inspection conducted by Mr. D. D; Chamberlain of this office-

A , during the period March 17-20, 1986, of activities authorized by NRC Operating

n- License NPF-47 for River Bend Station, and to the discussion of our findings

, with you and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

This' inspection was a special inspection conducted to review the conditions and

actions-which led to a Division II diesel generator operability failure on-

March 17, 1986, and to review the planned corrective actions.

Within this area, the inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures

'

-and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the

. inspector. .These findings are documented in the enclosed inspection' report.

During this inspection, it was.found that certain of your activities may be in

' violation of NRC requirements. _ Paragraph 2 of the enclosed inspection report

provides details of these potential violations. 'As discussed in a telephonc

.J conversation on March 27, 1986, with you, we have scheduled an enforcement

-conference in our office on April 10, 1986, to discuss these potential violations,

.the reasons for occurrence, and your corrective actions. We shall also discuss

-

.any potential enforcementJoptions available to the NRC, if appropriate.
