2315 CST DESCRIPTION.0F REPORTABLE OCCURRENCE:
Initial ~ Condition On.04/27/84, at 2200 CST, with Unit 1 in steady state - operations at
-2436 mwt (approximately 100% power) and Unit 2 in a recirculation pipe replacement outage. fire water storage tanks level dropped duwn to appro'ximately 195,000 gals, each.
Nature of Occurrence Followint a' storm.with winds. exceeding 40 mph a ground fault alarm was received on fire protection panel Z43-POO5.
On investigating the ground fe'll t a - spike which tripped the fire detector circuits on Z43-POOS ind tripped six sprinkles system, started the-electric fire pump..
The main fire header ruptured resulting in a' low fire main pressure (i.e.
starting both diesel fire pumps).
With a main fire
-header rupture and all three fire pumps running a low fire water storage tank level was received in approximately 10 minutes. The level in L both fire water tanks dropped below the requirements of Unit 1

Immediate Corrective Action The main header rupture was isolated and the level in both fire water storage tanks was restored in approximately 1 hour1.157407e-5 days <br />2.777778e-4 hours <br />1.653439e-6 weeks <br />3.805e-7 months <br />. and 45 minutes.
Also, ' notification of significant events was made in accordance with 10 CFR 50.72 (i.e. event number 84-29).
~Cause The-cause of the fire main piping rupture'was postulated as a material weakness in the' fire main piping, o gytc O L C O W '.

-The. event is being -reviewed to determine if supplemental corrective action is required.
Status of Redundant or Backup Systems The remainder of the Fire Protection system was performing as required.
Impact to'Other Units The impact to both units was the same and any' additional information will be in a _14 day special report to meet Unit I and Unit 2 reporting requirements.
