Dear Mr. Harrington:

Re: Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station By letter dated November 1, 1984, Boston Edison provided a report which addresses the concerns in Regulatory Guide (R.G.) 1.97 with respect to

-instrumentation at Pilgrim Station to monitor plant variables and system parameters during and following an accident. With the assistance of EG&G Idaho, Inc., we have reviewed your submittal and conclude that you have provided an explicit commitment on conformance to R.G.1.97, with the exception of certain items which were identified in your report. We also concluded that the justifications for exception of some items are acceptable and others are not.

The enclosed interim report provides the specific results of our review.

We request that you respond to the open items identified therein on a schedule negotiated with your project manager. Please comment also if you find that the enclosed report includes any incorrect assumptions or reflects a comitment beyond your intent.
