Gentlemen:

SUBJECT: NOTICE OF VIOLATION
(NRC INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-325/91-04 AND 50-324/91-04)
{
This refers to the inspection conducted by D. A. Seymour of this office on
,
February 4-8, 1991.
The inspection included a review of activities authorized
for your Brunswick facility. At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings
were discussed with those members of your staff identified in the report.
These findings were also discussed during several telephone conversations
initiated by your staff in the two weeks following the inspection.
,
1
Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report.
Within
l
these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures
j
and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observation of
6
activities in progress.
Based on the results of this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to
be in violation of NRC requirements, as specified in the enclosed Notice of
Violation.
We are concerned about the violation due to the potential for the
release of radioactive materials during shipment as a result of inadequate
a
verification of the unimpaired physical condition of the shipping container.
l
Although Section 2.201 requires you to submit to this office, within 20 days of
q
your receipt of this Notice, a written statement of explanation, we note that
l
this violation had been corrected and those actions were reviewed during this
inspection. Therefore, no response with respect to this matter is required.
