Update on Status of Response to NRC Generic Letter 87-02 Supplement 1 USI A-46 Seismic Evaluation Report (TAC M69460)

By letters dated November 20,1995 and February 19,1996, Monticello responded to the NRC's Generic Letter 87-02 Supplement 1. In each of Monticello's responses, commitments were made to the NRC. With this letter, Monticello is updating the NRC on status of commitments made in these two letters as proposed by Generic Implementation Procedure (GIP) Rev. 2, Section 2.2.8.

From Monticello's November 20,1995 letter, commitment number 1 has been completed. This commitment stated:

l Table 8-1 of report 91C2687.A46, USNRC USI A-46 Resolution. Seismic Evaluation Report. Monticello Nuclear Generatina Plant. identifies proposed resolution for outliers.

The proposed resolution foritems C-2538, D312, and K-10A has been completed.

The proposed resolution for the remaining items identified in Table 8-1 is to be completed by the end of 1996.

From Monticello's November 20,1995 letter, commitment number 2 was completed by issuance of our February 19,1996 letter. This commitment stated:

Table 7-1 of report USNRC USI A-46 Resolution. Relav Evaluation Raport. Monticello Nuclear Generatina Plant. identifies outliers from the relay evaluation. Monticello will submit a letterproviding the schedule for corrective action for this equipment within ninety (90) days of this submittal.

From Monticello's February 19,1996 letter, commitment number 2 has been completed. This commitment stated:

Outlier components identifiedin Table 1-2 of Attachment 1 are to be replaced with relays seismically qualified for theirintended use during the Monticello 1996 refueling outage, scheduled for April 1996. g hDSE l

l 1. Outlier components identified in Table 1-1 of Attachment 1 are to evaluated and l resolvedin accordance with the SQUG Genenc Implementation Procedures 1 (GIP). For Seismic Vedfication of Nuclear Plant Equipment. Revision 2, Section 5, "OutlierIdentification and Resolution." This action is to be completed by January 15,1998.

3. Outlier components identified in Table 1-3 of Attachment 2 are to be replaced ,

with relays seismically qualified for theirintended use dunng the Monticello 1998 refueling outage, currently scheduled to commence in January 1998.
