Attention:
Ms. E. G. Adensam, Chief Licensing Branch No. 4
Subject:
McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Proposed Technical Specification Revision (Supplement 1)
}
Dear Mr..Denton:
By letter dated May 9, 1985, Duke proposed license amendments to Facility Operating Licenses NPF-9 and NPF-17 for McGuire Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2, respectively. These proposed License amendments addressed those Technical Specification revisions considered necessary to support'NRC approval of 3
deletion of the requirements to maintain the Upper Head Injection system at McGuire.
4 By letter dated October 2,1985 Duke provided a document entitled "McGuire Nuclear Station, Safety Analysis for UHI Elimination" dated September, 1985.
As a result of this complete analysis, one additional Technical Specification revision is requested.(Attachment 1).
One of the assumptions used in the Safety Analysis was Cold Leg Accumulator volume. The value of this assumption was 950 ft3 (nominal). Accordingly, in order to be consistent with the analysis assumption, the Technical i
Specification for Cold Leg Accumulator volume (3.5.1.1 b) needs to be revised.
The new range of values 6870 to 7342 gallons represents the conversion of cubic feet to gallons plus nominal tolerances provided by We'stinghouse.
No~ changes are required to the Bases of this specification as the Bases state that the limits on accumulator volume ensure that the assumptions used for accumu1~ator injection in the safety analysis are met.
ki analysis of the issue of no significant. hazards consideration is provided in Attachment 2.
f In as much as this request supplements an amendment request currently under Staff review, no additional license fees are provided.
