Dear Public Commenters:
l You were one of the approximately 40 individuals, organizations, or
}
governmental entities who provided comments on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's proposed rule entitled, " Low-Level Waste Shipment Manifest Information and Reporting" (57 FR 14500, dated April 21. 1992). The proposed rule not only defines NRC information needs with regard to low-level i
radioactive waste shipments but also attempts to develop a uniform manifest i
for such shipments. Since the manifest collects information that also addresses the legitimate needs of other entities, both governmental and private, many comments were received on format, specific information needs, l
and the implementation process.
As the enclosed Federal Register notice indicates, the NRC will hold a public l
meeting with interested parties, as requested by the Low-Level Radioactive i
Waste Forum. The intent of the meeting, which is reflected in the agenda included in the FR notice, is to focus comments and information exchange entirely on manifest issues. To facilitate such discussion, current copies of the manifest forms and supporting instructions are also enclosed.
All those who submitted comments on the proposed rule are specifically being informed and invited to the meeting. A transcript of the meeting will be taken and will be made available at the NRC Public Document Room, 2120 L Street NW, Washington, DC.
If you plan to attend the meeting and wish to r
speak, please contact either William Lahs (301) 504-2569 or. Mark Haisfield (301) 492-3877, so that appropriate arrangements can be made to facilitate your participation.
Sincerely, hl L/
Mel Silberberg, Chief Waste Management Branch i'
Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research i
