Your Letter Dated February 6,1985, Requesting Renewal of NRC License Number SNM-1492 in Accordance with Previously Submitted Information.
Gentlemen:
We have reviewed the information previously submitted to us in letters dated June 14, 1974, July 22, 1974, February 14, 1978, September 11, 1981, and March 9,1982, and need additional information and/or clarification on the following items in order to complete our review of your renewa1 request:
1.
Radiation Safety Officer Please specify the name, qualifications, and duties of your Radiation Protection Officer.
2.
Authorized Users Your February 6,1985 letter indicated that you only have one user remaining, Mike Nelson.
Please indicate how one user can effectively supervise the use of your NOLA and NALA systems at two different locations.
If not, please submit the name(s) and qualifications of other individuals who will supervise the use of radioactive materials in these systems.
3.
Removal and Examination of Irradiation Cell a.
Your letters indicate that you will remove and examine the irradiation cells (of your N0LA systems) as needed.
Please indicate the name and qualifications (i.e., trainin procedures as proposed) of the individual (g in performing thes) who will be per this procedure, b.
Please describe the radiation exposure levels expected for the individuals performing this procedure and your considerations of the use of film badges and area monitoring with an appropriate and calibrated survey meter prior to and during the procedure.
4.
If you will be performing any maintenance operations in and around the plutonium beryllium source during times when the water shield is lost, you will need to specify the name and training of the individual performing h

the maintenance operations and the precautions you will utilize to minimize and/or monitor his/her potential exposure to radiation (e.g., use of area monitors, film badges, special procedures, etc.).
5.
Leak Test Procedures Indicate the name and qualifications of the individual (s) performing the procedures.
6.
Your letters indicate that the area where the N0LA 1 system will be utilized and the cover plate to the irradiation cell will be secured against unauthorized access. Please submit the name of the individual (s) who will be responsible for this access control and your procedures for controlling access to keys if locks are utilized.
