.Re: Special Nuclear License Renewal Control No. 24838 In reply to your letter of July 16, 1985 requesting additional infonnation to complete your review of our renewal request, we are submitting the following data as outlined in your letter.
1.
Radiation Safety Officer Carlo W. Maki is designated as the radiation protection officer and his duties include safe use of licensed nuclear material, inventory control / records, leak test control / records, security of sources and point of contact in the case of an emergency.
He has been associated with nuclear devices used by our Company for over 20 years and has received training from various vendors such as Industrial Nucleonics, Texas Nuclear, Ohmart and Kay Ray.
In addition, each plant assigns two or three individuals as radiation officers / coordinators to directly supervise the use of nuclear devices.
These individuals receive training from vendors and some have attended the Texas Nuclear Radiation Safety Training Course.

Bruce S. Mallett, Ph.D. August 1, 1985 Due to personnel transfers to other assignments, Mr. Nelson's name will be deleted from the license effective July 1985. He will continue to be stationed at the Tilden Mine.

Authorized Users Louis Roncaglione will supervise the use of radioactive materials at the Tilden plant and Allan Wood will supervise the use of radioactive material at the Empire plant. They have attended the Texas Nuclear Radiation Safety Course, have attended various vendor training programs and have been super-vising the use of nuclear devices for over 12 years.
3.
Removal and Examination of Irradiation' Cell The cell is removed very infrequently and when removal is required, the procedures outlined in the Texas Nuclear manual are followed. Tne indivi-duals listed in paragraph 2 will supervise the removal of the cell with help from the instrumentation department.
Before and during cell removal, the area is surveyed using a calibrated survey meter. The radiation exposure levelsexperienced to date have been between 0.5 MR and 3 MR.

Maintenance We will not attempt any repair prohibited by Texas Nuclear or by our license. Should we lose the water shield, we would isolate the area and call Texas Nuclear for assistance.
5.
Leak Test Procedures Leak tests are performed at six-month intervals using the Texas Nuclear leak test kits.
Leak tests are made by Allan Wood at the Empire plant and by Peter Farm at our Tilden plant. Allan Wood's qualifications are listed in paragraph 2 and Peter Farm is an engineer in our Research Lab who has received training in the use of the N0LA from Texas Nuclear at several training sessions.
6.
Locks Our N0LA cover plates are secured with locks against unauthorized access.
The keys / number combinations for these locks are kept in the office of the individuals listed below:
