SEP Topic III Fire Water Tank Seismic Analysis Report
Dear Sir:
Yankee submitted a report via Reference (b) which presented the results of a seismic analysis of the YNPS fire water storage tank. This report was prepared by Cygna Energy Services as partial resolution of SEP Topic III-6.
Subsequent to our submittal of this report for your review, a routine quality check revealed that incorrect allowable anchor bolt stresses had been used in the analysis. This discrepancy in bolt stress does not affect the original design qualification of the tank, only the seismic evaluation.
After learning of the bolt stress discrepancy, we elected to perform our own seismic evaluation of this tank using the methodology presented in NUREG/CR-ll61. Our report, YAEC-1492, is attached and replaces Reference (b). The tank was evaluated for both YCS and NRC equivalent seismic events. The tank and its supporting structure will remain within code design allowable limits if subjected to seismic loadings based on either spectrum.
