Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 South Texas Project Unit 2 Docket No. STN 50-499 Licensee Event Report 97-002 Recardine Steam Generators Classined as Catecory C-3 Pursuant to 10CFR50.73, Houston Lighting & Power submits the attached Unit 2 Licensee Event Report 97-002 regarding all four steam generators being classified as Category C-3. This event did not have an adverse effect on the health and safety of the public.

A Special Report, letter number ST-HL-AE-5586, was submitted to the NRC on February 21, 1997, as required by Technical SpeciHcation 4.4.5.5c. There was some conflicting information in the Special Report. One sentence of the report stated that fourteen volumetric indications were classified as defective while the table of inspection results indicated that fifteen volumetric indications were classified as defective. Fifteen is the correct number, as reflected in the at: ached Licensee Event Report.
