FINAL REPORT Description of Deficiency Adjustable riser connectors for electrical cable trays were not supported on each side of the hinge bolt in TVA designs as recommended by P-W Industries, Incorporated, the cable tray manufacturers.
Safety Implications The subject connectors were analyzed to determine if they have adequate load-carrying capacity for the manner in which they are presently being supported. However, the analysis did not yield definitive results; consequently, a test program was designed and executed at TVA's Singleton Engineering Laboratory.
TVA tested the riser assembly to document the load carrying capability of the connectors. These tests demonstrated that the hinged connectors as presently supported are capable of performing their structural functions during a seismic event with no adverse effect on any safety-related feature.
Design modifications of existing features are not required.
Therefore, since no condition adverse to the safe operation of the plant existed, TVA no longer considers this condition reportable under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.55(e).
