NORTH ANNA POWER STAT. ION UNIT NO.:

1 MONTH: February SIM4ARY OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Page 1 of 1 Listed below in chronological sequence is a summary of operating experiences for this month which required load reductions or resulted in

'l significant non-load related incidents.

Date Time Data February 01, 1997 0000 Began month with unit at 100% power, 950 MWe.

February 08, 1997 2026 Placed steam dump system in Steam Pressure mode for a

partial calibration of Main Steam Temperature T-1408.

2102 Control Room received Main Steam Line-High Flow annunciation.

A walkdown of the control board revealed:

steam flow

increase, Tave/ Tref decrease, MW generated decrease, and control rod "D"

bank insertion of 223/224.

All indications consistent with'a momentary opening of steam dump valves.

This observation was supported by the Turbine Building Operator who identified a brief flow noise in the area.

Instrument Technicians were instructed to stop work in the racks for investigation.

)

2115 Control rods restored to full out position of 225 steps.

February 09, 1997 0040 Determined the momentary partial opening of the steam dumps was caused by a procedural _ error.

The calibration procedure required the dumps to be in Steam Pressure mode versus the correct mode to be OFF for the test.

February 21, 1997 0940 Commenced ramp down for performance of Turbine Valve Freedom Test.(TVFT) from 100% power, 950 MWe.

1025 Unit stable at 92% power, 875 MWe for TVFT.

1125 TVFT complete satisfactorily.

1128 Commence ramp to 100% power.

1214 Unit stable at 100% power, 948 MWe.

February 28, 1997 2400 Ended month with unit stable at 100% power, 946 MWe.
