SUBJECT:
NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-413/96-20 AND 50-414/96-20
Dear Mr. McCollum:
On. January 11, 1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your Catawba Nuclear
Station. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
During this report period, your. actions demonstrated an appropriate focus on
operational safety.
Specifically. Unit.1 was shutdown to investigate the
source of an indicated increase in reactor coolant system leakage before the
Technical Specification limit was approached, and Unit 2 was shutdown to
l
correct conditions that had resu'ted in excessive operator work arounds.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of
this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
