Use of ASME Code Cases N-403 and N-413 for Byron Station, Units 1 and 2 and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2 The NRC has completed its review of the Commonwealth Edison request for authorization to use ASME Code Case N-403 which pennits the reassembly of NF components and piping supports from NF supports supplied as com-plete assemblies or parts, and ASME Code Case N-413 for application to linear type supports for Byron Station, Units 1 and 2 and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2 as discussed in the applicant's letter dated June 18, 1985.

Code Case N-403, " Reassembly of Subsection NF Components and Piping SupportsSection III, Division 1," is an acceptable Code Case which is approved as written with no additional requirements other than those specified in the Code Case. The Code Case is expected to be endorsed by the NRC in a future revision of Regulatory Guide 1.84, " Design and Fabrication Code Case Accept-ability ASME Section III, Division 1."

Code Case N-413, " Minimum Size of Fillet Welds for Linear Type Supports, Sec-tion III, Division 1, Subsection NF," is an acceptable Code Case which is approved as written with no additional requirements other than those specified in the Code Case. The Code Case is expected to be endorsed by the NRC in a future revision of Regulatory Guide 1.84, " Design and Fabrication Code Case Acceptability ASME Section III, Division 1."

Mr. Dennis L. Farrar AUG 2 3 1985 Code Cases N-403 and N-413 may, therefore, be used at Byron Station, Units 1 and 2 and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2 within the limitations stated in the " Inquiry" and " Reply" section of each Code Case. Use of these Code Cases must be documented in a future FSAR amendment.
