Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 2 - Extension of Construction Permit Date By letter dated August 15, 1984, Mississippi Power and light Company requested an extension to the latest construction completion date to April 30, 1991, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55(b).
The NRC staff is reviewing this submittal and finds that additional information is needed to complete its review, as described in the enclosure.
If there are any questions regarding the enclosed request for additional information, please contact the project manager, L. L. Kintner.
The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements contained in this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511.

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION GRAND GUI.F NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 2 1.
Considering the projected long construction period for Unit 2, the staff recommends that the following actions be taken by Mississippi Power and light Company (MP&L) for environmental protection during construction completion.
(a) Approximately one year before loading fuel into Unit 2 MP&L should report to NRC onthe current status of all environmental permits and approvals and should provide NRC with a description of any post OL-FES design changes having potential environmental impacts.
(b) Site runoff control structures, catchment basins, and sedimentation ponds should be maintained until the site is graded to final elevations and reseeded or otherwise stabilized.
(c) The environmental protection program should continue until OL issuance.
Provide a commitment to follow the above or similar recommendations for protection of the environment until site construction is completed.

Provideanupdateoftheestimatedlatestconstructioncompletionpate considering the current status of Unit 1 and ability to finance construction of Unit 2.

Provide additional justification to show that good cause exists for the requested extension of construction completion date, including reasons for major delays and the basis for the estimated completion date.
