Dear Mr. Richard:

BGrimes EJordan

Subject:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 - Qualification Tests of Service Water Pumps By letters dated February 28 and March 20, 1985, Mississippi Power and t.ight Company provided the results of inplant tests of the high pressure core spray (HPCS) service water pump for Grand Gulf Unit 1 in response to license Condition 2.C.(10)(b). The tests were run to confirm the acceptability of mechanical and flow induced vibrations under normal operating conditions.

The NRC staff has completed its review of the HPCS pump test results. The safety evaluation is enclosed. The staff concludes that the vibration levels of the HPCS service water pump during normal operation are small and within acceptable limits and the there is no evidence of flow induced excitation of resonant frequencies of vibration to any significant level. Accordingly, licenseCondition2.C.(10)(b)ha.sbeensatisfied.

51ncerely, Thomas M. Novak, Assistant Director for licensing Division of 1.icensing
