Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington,' D. C. 20555 Attention: Ms. E. G. Adensam, Chief Licensing Branch No. 4

' Re: -Catawba Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414

Dear Mr. Denton:

. License Condition 17(b) of Facility Operating License NPF-35 requires the submittal of bimonthly reports on the status of the confirmatory research program of tests and analyses regarding containment response for. main steamline break accidents.

The previous report dated June 11, 1985 inadvertently contained proprietary infor-mation. This matter was brought'to our attention by the NRC Project Manager.

However, this' material was presented to the NRC at a July 26, 1985 meeting and is now being formally submitted with the fourth bimonthly status report. Therefore, ,

we request that the June 11, 1985 submittal be disregarded.

As the two' reports contain information proprietary to Westinghouse Electric Corporation, they are supported by an affidavit signed by Westinghouse, the owner of the information. The affidavit sets forth the basis on which the information may be withheld from'public disclosure by the Commission and addresses with specificity the considerations listed in paragraph (b)(4) of Section 2.790 of the Commission's regulations. f

.Accordingly, it is respectfully requested that the information which is proprietary to Westinghouse be withheld from public disclosure in accordance with 10 CFR Section 2.790 of the Commission's regulations. Correspondence with respect to the proprietary aspects of the Application for Withholding or the supporting Westinghouse affidavit should reference CAW-85-049 and should be addressed to

.R. A. Wiesemann, Manager, Regulatory and Legislative Affairs, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, P. O. Box 355, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15230.

,Very truly yours, l
