Subject: ' Inspection No. 50-244/85-20
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. W. Lazarus of
this office and other members of an NRC team on September 25-27, 1985, at the
R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant of activities authorized by NRC License No.
DPR-18 and to the discussions of our findings held by Mr. Lazarus with you and
other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
The areas examined during this inspection were limited to observation of the
Emergency. Exercise conducted on September 26, 1985. Within the scope of this
inspection, no violations were observed.
We are concerned however, that the Emergency Operations Facility (E0F) dose
assessment team did not effectively utilize information available to perform
accurate, timely dose assessment calculations which could have been used to
determine _ or verify protective action recommendations.
We request that you
provide a written response within'30 days of receipt of this letter detailing
your proposed actions to upgrade performance in this area.
