SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-483/96-14 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION
Dear Mr. Schnell:
An NRC inspection waa conducted November 24,1996 through January 4,1997, at your
Callaway Plant reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that
inspection.
During the 6-week period covered by this inspection period, your conduct of activities at
Callaway was generally characterized by safety-conscious operations; sound engineering
practices; and appropriate performance of maintenance, surveillance, and plant support
activities. We are concerned, however, about one violation of NRC requirements. The
violation involved the failure to place a Workman's Protection Assurance tag on the correct

component, inspection Report 50-483/96-11, dated December 12,1996, discussed a
l
noncited violation for a similar occurrence,

The violation is cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and the circumstances
l
surrounding this violation are described in detailin the enclosed report. Please note that
you are required to respond to this letter and should follow the instructions specified in the
enclosed Notice when preparing your response. The NRC will use your response, in part,
to determine whether further enforcement action is necessary to ensure compliance with

regulatory requirements.
