MALLINCKRODT NUCLEAR CORPORATION, JULY 8,1960 1

Please refer to your July 14 memorandum, requesting review of Mallinckrodt Nucicar Corporation's proposed methods for shipping eight-inch UF6 cylinders.

4 Mallinckrodt's proposal to use birdcages already licensed for MD (12-inch) cylinders, will provide the eight-inch cylinders with safe spacing under the specified limitations of U-235 enrichment, moderation control, and container array.

The July 8 application did not show any evidence of modi-fication to the MD cylinder birdcage which would permit securing 8-inch cylinders. However, the supplemental application furnished by Mallinckrode on August

1960, makes provision for this.

d Accordingly, we recommend that the application be approved.
