NIAGARA M0 HAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT - UNIT 2 DOCKET N0. 50-410 Interim Report for a Problem Concerning Linear Indications in Tube Steel Seam Welds (55(e)-85-18)

Description of the Problem During field inspection of some tube steel supports, a linear indication on a tube steel seam weld was noted.

The extent of the condition was found to apply to tube material fabricated by one particular tube manufacturer.

The material was purchased from Interstate Steel fabricated by Unarco-Levitt.

Most of the steel with indications appears to have a limited depth of the defect.

A list of material received, from this manufacturer and of supports fabricated with this material, is currently being developed.

Once compiled, it will be forwarded to Engineering for an evaluation.

This matter is still under investigation, and a final report will be issued by November 30, 1985.
