a NIAGARA M0 HAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT - UNIT 2 DOCKET N0. 50-410 Final Report for a Problem Concerning Trim Design Details (55(e)-85-09)

Description of the Problem During a review of a planner package by ITT Grinnell Quality Assurance and the Authorized Nuclear Inspector, it was discovered that ITT Grinnell Engineering had issued trim design details to Construction without approved design drawings.

ITT Grinnell used a standard detail from Specification No.

NMP2-P30lC which did not apply.

Specific details on approved drawings were required by Specification No. NMP2-P301C.

Analysis of Safety Implications ITT Grinnell Quality Assurance issued Corrective Action Report No. 666 to document the investigation of this problem.

ITT Grinnell recalled all of its planner packages and reviewed them to identify those cases where this problem occurred.

This review resulted in the issuance of 21 Nonconformance and Disposition Reports related to the use of ITT Grinnell's trim design details.

Only 12 Nonconformance and Disposition Reports involved Category I equipment.

Since it was deterciined that the nonconformances did not jeopardize system or component integrity, all of the 12 Nonconformance and Disposition Reports were dispositioned " accept-as-is".

Therefore, if this condition were to have remained uncorrected, it could not have adversely affected the safety of operations of the plant.

Corrective Action None required.
