Gentlemen:

}

Subject:

Inspection Report No. 50-423/85-53

This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. A. G. Krasopoulos

'

j

of this office on August 19-23, 1985 at Millstone, Unit 3, Waterford,

Connecticut, of activities authorized by NRC License No. CPPR-113 and to the

,

j

discussions of our findings held by Mr. Krasopoulos with Mr. R. Basch of your

j

staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

-

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I

Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative

<

records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.

i

Within the scope of this inspection, items of noncompliance were not observed.

However, certain activities appear to be deviating from your Fire Protection

'

]

Evaluation Report commitment to provide fire detection in accordance with the

National Fire Protection Association standards and to provide fire proofing on

'

j

structural steel members forming parts of fire walls. We have identified these

,

as unresolved items which should be addressed in a timely manner to preclude

potential violations of operating license requirement.

I

i

Your cooperation with us in this matter is appreciated.

!

Sincerely,

orisinal Signea BY8
