Public Information Brodlures for the Beaver Valley Power Station The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Region III Office staff have reviewed the public information brochures prepared by the Duquesne Light Cotpany for the Beaver Valley Power Station. 'Ihe information packet, "Inportant Emergency Information," has been reviewed against the require-ments of NUREI3-0654/ FEMA REP-1, Rev.1, Elenent G, Public Education and Information, and has been determined to adequately meet the requirements of this element.

Attached for your information is a copy of the review cotutents made by the FEMA Region III staff.

Public Information Brochures Beaver Valley Power Station The following comments have been included in the plan review for the Beaver Valley Power Station.

' The Pennsylvania and Beaver County plans adequately address the requirements of NUREG-0654, Element G, Public Education and Information.

G.I.b. Management Agency and Beaver County Emergency Management G.I.c. Agency coordinate in the advance development and distribution G.1.d. of public information to inform persons living, working and  ;

travelling in risk areas of the plans and procedures for their notification and points of contact for information in the event of an incident at the Beaver Valley Power Station.

the EPZ have been updated and were distributed throughout the l EPZ in August 1985. l G.3.a. A. Points of contact and locations have been identified in the State and county plans.

A near site media center has been established by the utility. A State Public Information Officer is dispatched to if this Joint Media Center.

G.4.b. A. The PEMA Public Information Officer is responsible for coordination of information exchange between all principal J response organizations.

G .c. A. A rumor control center will be established by the Governor's Press Secretary at State level and by the Beaver County Public Information Officer at county level. Rumor control telephone numbers will be disseminated to the public at the time of an incident. All rumor control activities will be

{ coordinated between State and county rumor control centers, j At the municipal level, the police services office is responsible for rumor control. However, this responsibility is not listed in the Appendix for Police Services in municipal plans.

G.S. A. A news media orientation, which is co-sponsored by the Beaver Valley Power Station and PEMA, is presented to news media representatives annually. Beaver County Emergency Management Agency participates in this annual orientation. The i

orientation familiarizes news media representatives with Radiological Emergency Response Plans and points of contact for the release of information to the public.

l Also included with this memorandum is a copy of the public infonnation brochure mailed to the public in August 1985.
