Subject: NRC Inspection Report

This refers to the in-office inspection conducted by Mr. G. Hamada of this

office on July 2 and July 12, 1985, of activities authorized by NRC License

Nos. NPF-10, NPF-15, and to the telephone discussion of our findings held by

Mr. Hamada with Mr. S. Chick of your staff at the conclusion of the

inspection.

The inspection was an examination of results obtained for a test solution

supplied by the NRC for the purpose of assessing the radio-chemical analysis

capability of a vendor laboratory San Onofre uses for certain categories of

radioactivity measurements.

While no violations of NRC requirements were identified within the scope of

this inspection, the results indicate that improvement in the quality of data

is necessary. Accordingly, Mr. G. Hamada of my staff will contact your

representative to discuss the implementation of a corrective action plan which

will resolve the issue at hand and provide some degree of assurance that

radioanalytical quality will be maintained.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosure

will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.

discuss them with you.
