GENERIC LETTER 83-28 INSPECTION AT BRUNSWICK This letter is to inform you of our plans to conduct a special inspection of your actions as a result of Generic Letter 83-28, Required Actions Based on Generic Implication of Salem ATWS Events. The actions covered by this letter fall into the following four areas:

1.

Post-Trip Review 2.

Equipment Classification and Vendor Interface 3.

Post-Maintenance Testing 4.

Reactor Trip System Reliability The inspection will be conducted at your Brunswick plant during the period of May 20-24, 1985, by a four-member team led by Mr. Larry E. Foster of this office.

During our inspection we normally review procedures and documentation associated with the four areas listed above.

It would be appreciated if information i

applicable to these areas be readily available for our inspectors' use.

For information not available at the site, we request that the team be notified upon their arrival so further arrangements can be made.

Additionally, we have found it helpful if information (similar to enclosures) is provided which identifies applicable procedures, licensee contacts, and telephone i

numbers of those who are familiar with the licensee's effort in each of the categories listed in the Generic Letter. Our team will observe selected portions of safety-related maintenance that may be scheduled or in progress during the i

period which they are at the site. The team will request to observe the performance of your maintenance procedure for the Reactor Trip Breaker or other breakers of the same type by knowledgeable maintenance personnel. Where this is t
