JUL 011985 Duke Power Company ATTN: Mr. H. B. Tucker, Vice President Nuclear Production Department 422 South Church Street Charlotte, NC 28242 Gentlemen:

SUBJECT:

MEETING

SUMMARY

- CATAWBA FACILITY, DOCKET NOS. 50-413 AND 50-414 Thank you for the invitation to visit the Catawba facility and for the hospital-ity given me and other NRC representatives during our management meeting there on June 20, 1985.

This meeting was most beneficial to me in understanding your organization and management philosophy and in getting to know your management team. The tour of the facility was also very informative.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Duke Power Company upon receipt of the Edison Award, the electric utility industry's highest award presented by the Edison Electric Institute. I understand the award is for excellence in completing nuclear construction at low cost and on schedule and, for efficient operation of nuclear power plants. This type of leadership and performance by Duke Power Company sets a fine example for others to emulate.

I look forward to continued positive interfaces in our mutual interest in excellence toward nuclear power plant operations and safety.

Sincerely, 15l T. 4L. @ms J. Nelson Grace Regional Administrator
