BELLEFONTE NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 - OVERHEATING OF TDI DIESEL GENERATOR CONTROL PANELS - BLRD-50-438/85-19, BLRD-50-439/85 FIRST INTERIM REPORT The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-OIE Inspector Al Ignatonis on June 24, 1985 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e) as NCR BLN MEB 8504.
Enclosed is our first interim report. We expect to submit our next report on or about November 22, 1985. We consider 10 CFR Part 21 applicable to this deficiency.

j TVA was notified by Transamerica Delaval, Incorporated (TDI) (Oakland, i
California), of a potential problem with equipment overheating in the standby diesel generator. control panels for Bellefonte Nuclear Plant (BLN). The deficiency is a result of inadequate provisions for ventilation of the i
generator control panel. Overheating of the generator control panel can cause the linear reactor, which is a component of the control panel, to fail causing the control panel circuit breakers to trip which renders the standby diesel generator inoperable.

TVA has received preliminary design information from TDI on installing 1
additional ventilation in the generator control panels. TDI requested j
additional information from TVA in order to complete their design work. TVA j
is researching TDI's request and will furnish this information to TDI when available. We anticipate providing our next report on or by November 22, 1985.
