Dear Mr. Randazza:

SUBJECT AUXILIARY FEEDWATER SYSTEM EVALUATION Enclosed is our revised evaluation of your auxiliary feedwater (AN) system.

This revised evaluation is in response to your request dated September 28, 1984 for a meeting concerning certain aspects of the AFW system. The meeting was held on November 8, 1984 at which time the technical staff was requested to reevaluate your AFW system. The staff's revised evaluation reflects your letters of January 10 and 14 1985, concerning this subject.

In order to resolve all issues concerning the AFW system, we have prepared the enclosed integrated assessment. This assessment reflects:

- An evaluation against the deterministic criteria of the Standard Review Plan,

- An evaluation against the generic recommendations of NUREG-0635.

- An evaluation of system reliability based on NUREG reliability and subsequent system updates.

- An evaluation of the design basis for the flow capability for the system, and

- An evaluation of Multiplant Action C-14 "AFW Seismic Qualification."

The open items and items requiring verification by you are identified. However, information relating to Technical Specifications for Appendix R (which concern the turbine driven AFW pump) will be the subject of a future Generic Letter.

We request that you review the attached assessment and provide any comments that you deem appropriate.
