Dear Dr. Murley:
POTENTIAL CONSTRUCTION DEFICIENCY TOBAR PRESSURE TRANSMITTERS HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On April ll, 1985, a verbal report was made to Region I, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr.
J.
Strosnider, advising of a potentially significant construc-tion deficiency concerning pressure transmitters supplied by TOBAR, Inc.
The following interim report is provided in accordance with 10CFR50.55 (e).
Tobar (formerly Westinghouse) model 32, series 2 pressure transmitters purchased from TOBAR, Inc. of Tempe, Arizona, have exhibited calibration deviations and output signal drifts that exceed the manufacturer's published tolerances.
One installed Tobar transmitter, that had been calibrated two (2) months earlier, no longer performed with the specified accuracy and required recalibration.
Also, during startup calibration, a Tobar transmitter exhibited output signal drift when subjected to warm and cool air currents directly on the amplifier assembly.
Startup Deviation Report No. ZC-0017 and Nonconformance Report No. 7390 have been issued to document and control the suspect transmitters.
Our Architect / Engineer and Constructor, Bechtel, is investigating this concern with the manufacturer.
