SUMMARY

- OCONEE - DOCKET NOS. 50-269, 50-270 AND 50-287 This letter. refers to the management meeting conducted, at our request, in Charlotte, N. C. on May 2,1985. This meeting concerned activities authorized by NRC Operating License Nos. DPR-38, DPR-47, and DPR-55 for the Oconee Nuclear Station. The meeting was held to brief NRC on the philosophy, design and plan of implementing the Standby Shutdown Facility (SSF) at the Oconee Nuclear Station.

The NRC representatives had requested this meeting to ensure that the security aspects related to the SSF were adequate. Duke Power Company (DPC) presented the ,

subject matter as stated in the enclosed meeting agenda. Clarifications were requested from time-to-time.

Our concerns regarding the SSF were expressed to you at the meeting and your positive response to our concerns is appreciated. The NRC's response to the proposed DPC transition plan should be formulated within 30 days.

It is our opinion that this meeting was beneficial and has provided for a better understanding of the security aspects related to the SSF.

In accordance with Section 2.790 of NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.

Should you have any questions concerning this matter, we will be pleased to discuss them.
