Dear Mr. Griffin:
We have completed our reviewed of your response to our questions (Generic t.etter 81-21) regarding reactor vessel upper head steam formation during a natural circulation cooldown for Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1 (ANO-1).
You have performed analyses for a natural circulation cooldown using continuous venting of the reactor vessel head and you have committed to revise your natural circulation cooldown procedure to reflect the method analyzed.
We have determined that your responses are acceptable. We have concluded that ANO-1 can perform a natural circulation cooldown to Decay Heat Removal System actuation conditions in approximately eight hours without void formation.
Our associated Safety Evaluation Report is enclosed.
