Byron 1 - Seismic Qualification of Valves 1RF026 and 1RF027 Your letter of May 16, 1985, provided information to justify continued operation of Byron Station, Unit 1, until seismic qualification of valves IRF026 and IRF027 is established. Based on the limited amount of time these valves would be opened (approximately 30 minutes) and the low probability of a seismic event during this time, we conclude that continued operation of the plant is justified until the modification to seismically qualify the valves is installed. By telephone call on May 17, 1985, we transmitted our approval to your staff and our Resident Inspector. This letter documents that approval.
