PEACH BOTTOM ATOMIC POWER STATION, UNITS 2 AND 3 - ADDITIONAL REQUESTS FOR RELIEF FROM ASME SECTION XI CODE REQUIREPENTS FOR THE FIRST TEN-YEAR INSERVICE INSPECTION PROGRAM (ISI)

By letters dated December 21, 1984, December 27, 1984, February 1, 1985, and March 13, 1985, you requested relief from certain ASME Section XI Code requirements pertaining to Inservice Inspection in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(5)(iv). In the above subnittals, you requested relief in the following areas:

(1) Visual exanination of the internal surfaces of the recirculation pump at the pressure boundary (Unit 3 only);

(2) Visual examination of the internal surfaces at the pressure boundary of the Class 1 valves exceeding 4 inches in diameter (Unit 3 only);

(3) Pressure testinr) hold time requirements for the High Pressure Coolant Injection (HPCI) and the Reactor Core Isolation Cooling (RCIC) systems (Units 2 and 3); and (4) Schedular relief under the first 10-year ISI program for inspection of ECCS components and piping in accordance with IWC-1220(c) (Unit 3 only).

The enclosed Safety Evaluation, together with our contractor's (Science Applications International Corporation) supporting Technical Evaluation Report, delineates those specific items for which relief has been granted and alternate schedules and procedures defined. We have determined, pursuant to i 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(6)(1), that the Code requirements are impractical, the granting of this relief is authorized by law and will not endanger life or 0507090262 r77 g [gigg; PDit ADOCK O
