Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-29 File: 0260/0765/L-860.0 Notification Of Plans To Release Shift Advisors AECM-85/0208 Mississippi Power & Light (MP&L) currently has a shift advisor assigned to each operating shift at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GCNS) Unit 1 as required by license condition 2.C.(29).

The license condition specifies that the shift advisors be retained until GCNS achieves and demonstrates full power operation.

Inaddition,bylitterdatedFebruary 29,1984 (AECM-85/0101),

MP&L committed to retain a shilt advisor on each operating shift in accordance with the license cordition and until:

Individual shift crews m'eet the experience requirements recommended by the Industry Working Group on Operating Shift Experience, and 3)

MP&L management is completely satisfied with shift performance.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that MP&L considers that the requirements of license condition 2.C.(29) and the above stated commitments have been satisfied and requests your review and concurrence in this matter.

Also, as required by Generic Letter (Gl) 84-16, MP&L is hereby providing 4

notification of plans to release the GGNS shift advisors on July 31, 1983, w

Utilizing the formula developed by the group, each operating shift crew has over 275 man-months of operating experience. Finally, MP&L management believes that the performance of each operating shift crew has been satisfactory and that each is prepared to operate CGNS Unit 1 in a safe and reliable manner.

To summarize, MP&L requests your review and concurrence with its position that the requirements of license condition 2.C.(29) have been satisfied.

In accordance with the provisions of 10CFR170 an application fee of $150.00 is enclosed. If you require further information, please contact this office.
